Police exchanged gunfire with a suspect officers may have seen shooting at someone else late this afternoon in the West Pullman neighborhood, police said.

Officers saw someone firing a gun from a car near 116th Street and Yale Avenue about 5:10 p.m., and when they tried to stop the car, someone in the car shot at them, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien, citing preliminary information.

No police officer was hit.

Police returned fire, but apparently did not hit anyone, O’Brien said.

Following the exchange of gunfire, one person in the car was captured by police, but another escaped and is still being sought, O’Brien said.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.
