Last November, Dewitt Wright was in bed on the first floor of a building in the 600 block of West 60th Street when a bullet fired from a handgun on the second floor went through the floor, striking him in the shoulder.

Wright, 62, was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, police said. He died of his wounds on April 12 at Loretto Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
On Monday, Jamalh Nelson, 32, of the 3900 block of Maryland Street in Gary, was arrested by the fugitive apprehension section-Great Lakes regional task force and charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to Wright’s death, according to Chicago Police.
Nelson was charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, police said. Police say Nelson was apparently playing around with a handgun on the second floor of the building when he fired the shot into the floor that struck Wright.
He is expected to appear in court at 26th and California for a bond hearing Wednesday.
